Divaderme Lash Extender
September 3, 2010

This beauty product is a recommendation from a friend of mine, however, I did see the results first hand. I actually thought she was wearing fake eyelashes at the gym, which would have been a little weird, but turns out she had just applied Divaderm Lash Extender to her mascara that morning. The product itself is a mascara-like bottle full of little black lash looking particles that you apply in between coats of mascara. The particles stick to your own lashes, therefore extending them. It looked pretty amazing on my friend. And way easier than applying traditional fake lashes. Available at Facelogic in Dallas or via Amazon.

Rikshaw Design for Babies and Moms
September 1, 2010
This brand of clothing and bedding is for those with a bohemian sense of style. The designs are thoroughly modern while still sweet. The Rikshaw Design collection includes several bedding options for babies as well as adults, adorable baby clothing, bib and burp sets, and women’s kurtas. The fabrics are all hand-blocked and made from super-soft Indian cotton voile.
I love the happy vibe of the designs. And oh those bloomers! The collection will be available via a Pop-Up shop at Little Bean this Friday, Sept. 3 from 6-8 p.m. (to celebrate Little Bean’s first anniversary) or all the time at www.rikshawdesign.com.

Cotton Monkey Organic Bedding for Babies and Kids
September 1, 2010

Here’s a company that every mom should know, and will undoubtedly love. Cotton Monkey has incredibly soft and luxurious organic bedding that is also durable AND chic. Choose from cheery, modern designs or serene all-white. Founder, Michelle Meyer, is a mom with a background in design and architecture and an interest in sustainable products. While expecting her son, she went on the hunt for products that were both earth-friendly and well-designed and found a lack of options that met her modern sensibilities. So she decided to create her own, and Cotton Monkey was born. Visit www.cottonmonkey.com for online and retail stores. They also make awesome, long-lasting hooded towels.

Bonnie Basham For Gaia
August 31, 2010
Remember I wrote about Gaia For Women awhile ago–the organization that empowers local women in need by training and hiring them to make beautiful handmade cloth napkins from vintage and sustainable materials. Well, talented jewelry designer Bonnie Basham (who is also one of my most stylish friends) has teamed with Gaia to make beautiful agate napkin rings which compliment the napkins and benefit the organization. I saw some of her creations at Forty Five Ten the other day and they are gorgeous…jewelry for your table! www.gaiaforwomen.com

Me, D Magazine, and Diane Von Furstenberg
August 29, 2010
For those of you who didn’t know me before this website, for eight years I contributed to a lot of magazines: D Magazine and D Beauty, Texas Monthly, Lucky, The Dallas Morning News‘ fashion section, etc. Then I had a baby, a growing restaurant company that needed a lot of attention, and you know, life in general. If you used to read my articles–hopefully you have missed them in the last year. I know I missed writing them! So I am happy to report that I am officially back. I just finished D Magazine’s style page for October and I’m now working on November. I’ll be sure to remind you when October’s issue hits newsstands so you can write to the editors to tell them how brilliant I am so they’ll continue to hire me!
Anyway, October’s page is about what’s new in Highland Park Village. Without giving everything away, let’s just say that for part of the assignment I had to look in to Diane Von Furstenberg’s fall line. Of course I knew the whole wrap dress story, but I was not at all familiar with her current designs. I have to tell you I was pleasantly surprised (although not by her p.r. person). Take a look at a few of her current looks:

Crew Cuts
August 28, 2010
And here is why I am obsessed with Crew Cuts (J.Crew’s line for kids):

had to have these for my daughter

the skirt! the boots! the denim jacket!

these cashmere shorts come in gray too

and these black velvet shorts are just as darling
Sometimes I forget that I am shopping for her, not me. www.jcrew.com

The Lonesome Dove Western Bistro – Fort Worth
August 26, 2010

Two of my most trusted foodie friends have been adamant for awhile that this famous restaurant in the Fort Worth Stockyards needs to be added to the Life Content files. So when you find yourself headed west, you might try hitting up Lonesome Dove Western Bistro for some of chef Tim Love’s urban-western cuisine. Here’s where I need to mention that such cuisine may include elk, buffalo, antelope, kangaroo, and other wild game that you don’t see on every menu. But there’s also a lot of not-so-exotic poultry, fish, steak, and veggies that Love cooks up with unique flavors and ingredients influenced from cultures across the Southwest (i.e. a lot of chiles). Also for those of you in to the whole chef thing, Love won Iron Chef and is a pretty big deal in the culinary world.

Don’t you just want to stroll up to this bar and hang out for awhile?
There’s also an underground wine cellar and an intimate outdoor fire pit area.

Paloma’s Nest
August 22, 2010
Who knows what I could find if I only had the time. Given ten minutes to search for gift ideas this evening, I somehow ended up at Paloma’s Nest. This online store has many sweet yet chic wedding and baby gifts (and really any occasion gifts) handmade by an Austin-based artist. The custom ring bearer bowls seem to be the biggest hit…Martha Stewart and countless other publications discovered them before me. But I love the monogram bowls, custom text bowls, and baby’s first bowls. Such thoughtful, personalized little forget-me-nots. www.palomasnest.com or www.etsy.com/people/palomasnest

Laurence Dacade Boots
August 20, 2010

When you want your shoes to start the party, try these Laurence Dacade boots. I saw Erin Wasson wearing these with slouchy shorts and a tank a few months ago and have been thinking about them ever since. This pair is waiting for you at Forty Five Ten. www.fortyfiveten.com
