I just had to post this because, how often do you get an email about a songwriting retreat?  Check out the details of this unique workshop at Marfa’s coolest campground hotel, El Cosmico, October 27-29.

First Art-House Drive-In Movie Theater – Marfa

August 20, 2011

Leave it to unconventional art town Marfa, Texas, to build the first art-house drive-in movie theater in the country. Construction is commencing this year on the project, which will be a cutting-edge, sculptural reconfiguration of the classic drive-in design.  The space will combine a gallery, cinema house, music hall, theater, and park, all on several acres of scenic desert under the big Marfa sky.  www.ballroommarfa.org

Thanks to my friend Jackie of VOD who constantly fills me in on her worldwide discoveries and adventures.  I was literally zooming in and studying all the photos on her BlackBerry from Howl.  Very Austin.  Very cool.

A Couple of Familiar Faces Today on TinyDallas.com

One of my favorite websites posted a cute little interview with me today.  Click here to read it.  TinyDallas is a great place to find inspiration and gems of information from a group of super chic (and smart) moms.

Austin Art Garage

May 28, 2011

Here is another cool venue for the Austin files, recommended by my art loving aunt and cousin who are lucky enough to reside in that great city.  Austin Art Garage is a gallery that features original work by emerging Austin artists.   The goal of the space is to provide a venue to expose local talent to art enthusiasts of all social-economic levels, so there is something for everyone…from seasoned art collectors to students on a budget. Many of the pieces are also available online at www.austinartgarage.com.

Rock of Ages!

May 20, 2011

Picture 110

I’ve been dying to see Rock of Ages since it opened on Broadway.  Finally caught it at the Winspear Opera House in Dallas and  I cannot remember ever having more fun at a show.  I came home tempted to buy some Bon Jovi on iTunes.  The love story between a wannabe rocker and a wannabe actress takes place on the Sunset Strip in the ’80s and is set to that era’s best rock songs.  Remember Constantine Maroulis from American Idol?  He is perfect as the lead.  And Peter Deiwick is so entertaining channeling Bret Michaels for the Stacee Jaxx character.  In Dallas now through May 29.  Rock on.

Jesse Marco, Deejay

From Oscar parties at the Chateau Marmont to Tom Ford’s runway show during Milan fashion week, Jesse Marco is the deejay du jour to the stars, and I just heard him spin at the Dallas Contemporary.  Yes, he was that good, and, by the way, only 22-years-old!  I’ll be downloading his remixes in the morning.  www.jessemarco.com.

Paris Potholes

April 25, 2011

Has it been that long?  Sorry, I’ve been under a very big deadline for the past few days.  While I catch my breath, enjoy these photos of “Project Pothole,” which I saw on one of my other favorite blogs.  Artist Juliana Santacruz Herrera has been filling the potholes of Paris with these colorful braids of yarn.  This may be one of my favorite art installations ever.

Dallas Clayton, Children’s Author

I overheard a friend talking about a book signing she went to recently with her 3-year-old daughter and I thought she was talking about some rock star.  The author supposedly arrived an hour late (due to SXSW traffic in route to Dallas from Austin), brought a hippie entourage, did a stage dive into the audience, and after the reading took the crowd to a park across the street where he performed songs from the top of a jungle gym.  Turned out the rock star author wasn’t Keith Richards, it was Dallas Clayton, children’s author, and the signing took place at chic kids’ boutique, Little Bean.  I researched him and asked around, and he does seem to be overflowing with positive energy and somewhat of a rock star, so I am bummed that my daughter and I missed this event.  We did however, pick up copies of both of his books at Little Bean’s shop at the Dallas flea this weekend, and they are absolutely magical and worth the hype. All kids and adults should have them.  An Awesome Book (about dreaming big) and An Awesome Book of Thanks (about being thankful) are available at Little Bean in Dallas or via www.dallasclayton.com.  For each book he sells, he gives one away, like Blake Mycoskie at TOMS, another one of my favorite rock stars.
