Start Restaurant – Dallas
August 19, 2012

Alright loyal readers, I’m sorry for the lack of posts lately. Really. The babies and the move and slow internet connections and summer vacation and life. You know how it is. I am going to try to get back on my regular post schedule. So let’s start with some of my favorite finds. Some new, some old. Here’s a new restaurant concept that’s time had come. I was considering starting my own restaurant, simply because I am so tired of all the terribly unhealthy kids’ menus. Kids pretty much all love chicken. And it’s almost always fried and who knows what else. So here is one place where it isn’t. Start. A fast food restaurant without the “fast food.” Hormone-free and mostly organic menu options. A lot of things that relatively health-conscious adults will like (breakfast burritos with cage-free/organic eggs, quinoa salad, veggie/quinoa burger, hummus, grass-fed beef burgers, etc.) And the kids can eat baked and breaded or grilled chicken without the hormones, or p and jam, or cheese pizza on whole wheat flat bread, etc. We tried it and had a great experience. Plus, it’s nicely designed. Read more here and definitely check it out for yourselves and your kiddos. Photo from Pegasus News.

The Bar Method
June 7, 2012
Now that it’s time to lose the baby weight, I’ve been asking around, seeking some fitness inspiration. What have I missed in the last nine months? The Bar Method is the class of choice for a couple of my most toned friends, in fact, I’d say they are addicted. I finally took a class last week. It was exactly how I imagine a workout for ballet dancers. Floor work and exercises at a bar. Light weights and body weight only, but still incredibly challenging (especially the leg exercises–wow!). A lot of good abdominal work at the end. If this is the way to achieve a ballet dancer body, I’m in. It’s a franchise so check their website, there are locations across the U.S.

Maroma Resort – Mayan Riviera
April 20, 2012
Taking a little break to daydream about my next vacation, although with a two-week-old baby I have no idea when that will happen. I can’t wait to plan a trip back to this resort, Maroma, one of the stops on our honeymoon several years ago. Great food, luxurious spa and accommodations, plus a perfect beach. Quiet and peaceful and romantic. About an hour outside of Cancun, so an easy and quick escape from Texas. Here’s hoping we make it back soon…

The Gem
March 9, 2012

Attention health-conscious Dallas readers. While in NYC and LA you can find fresh juice bars on every corner, until now the only Dallas juice bar I’ve known about is inside Whole Foods on Park Lane. For me that means a lot of time stuck in traffic on Northwest Highway. But now there is also The Gem, a juice and smoothie bar located inside Duo, the culinary shop and cooking class venue at Inwood and Lovers. The Gem’s menu consists of all fresh juices, smoothies with protein and other boosts, tea, coffee, and a trio of salads that includes hummus, kale, and quinoa. Everything I’ve tried so far has been excellent: Green Glow and Ruby Slipper juices, Chocolate Diamond smoothie, and the salads. Hello, new daily ritual! 8 a.m.-2:30 p.m.

Fitbit Ultra
January 20, 2012

Here’s the newest husband-approved gadget around our house–the Fitbit Ultra. Wear this wireless, paperclip-like device and track your daily activity and sleep. It all uploads to your computer, giving you detailed daily reports as to how many calories you burned, how far you walked, how many stairs you climbed–and even more impressive–it monitors your sleep. That’s right, in the event you want to know how many times you woke up in the night and how much sleep you actually got, this little thing is like an all-knowing elf. My husband is apparently not the only one obsessed. Check out the many reviews (like the following) on the site. $100

Pura Vida Surf and Yoga Retreats
August 17, 2011
I just got invited on what sounds like the best 40th birthday party ever. A friend of mine is organizing a girls’ week at Pura Vida surf camp in Costa Rica. Daily activities include yoga, surf instruction, spa time, and excursions to local restaurants, etc. They also offer yoga retreats. Pura Vida has been recommended by Vogue and Elle and, well, just read the some of the glowing reviews on their website. Pretty sure you’ll want to sign up for what many have called a “life-changing” adventure/vacation.

Pong iPhone Covers Reduce Radiation
August 14, 2011

Pong phone covers are the only solution proven by the FCC (Federal Communications Commission) to protect cell phone users from radiation while not compromising phone performance. Given The World Health Organization’s classification of cell phone radiation as “a possible carcinogenic to humans, based on an increased risk for glioma, a malignant type of brain cancer,” can we agree that the Pong case is literally a must-have? Order one for everyone you know.
