Sachajuan Hair Products
February 6, 2012

The Songbird Society in Dallas is not only one of the best places in town for color, but they also pride themselves in offering the very best beauty products available anywhere. And with J.T. Osgood’s and Richard Hayler’s decades of experience, they’ve tried a lot of products! The Swedish Sachajuan haircare line is one of their favorites, and they’ve now got me hooked on the color shampoo and conditioner. I’ve never really been a hair product girl–I always buy whatever is used on my hair at the salon and then take it home to never use it–but now I am consistently applying Sachajuan Mousse, Shine Serum, and Straight Out products. Next on my post-baby to try list is a local skin care line also available onsite. Check out the salon and I promise you’ll soon be smitten with J.T. and all things Songbird Society too.

The Girl With The Red/Orange Lips
January 23, 2012
I’ll admit I seem to have developed a style crush on a girl I’ve never met. She is dating a Facebook friend of mine, and she pops up in his posts looking insanely glam every time. So I’ve been following their courtship from afar, getting a sort of guilty pleasure in clicking through photos of their trips to Hawaii and Napa, just to see what she’s wearing and how she pulls it all together (wardrobe/accessories/makeup) perfectly. The thing that really has me hooked is her bold lipstick color–sort of a red/orange–in almost every single picture, no matter where they are or what time of day. She has dark hair like me, so I decided to steal her look.
Jason Wu did a more extreme take on the red/orange lips in his Spring 2012 runway show. Here is the look, and the color used by his makeup artist.

I toned it down a bit (I’d call it a red/coral) and developed my own version with YSL Rouge Volupte Perle 110 lipstick and YSL Golden Gloss #3. I love the look it gives with very little other makeup. Thanks for the inspiration, mystery Facebook girl!

Alexis Badami facials – Dallas
November 30, 2011

I just love adding talented people to my life. I was recently complaining about my breakout-prone, hyper-pigmented, pregnancy skin (no sign of pregnancy glow here), and my friend Kristie Ramirez recommended I try under-the-radar facialist Alexis Badami. Now I don’t know what I did before her. One session provided a truly incredible improvement, and maybe even a hint of a glow. Already hooked. Read what Kristie had to say about her here. For appointments, (214) 417-3097. $125 flat fee per session (mine even included microdermabrasion and some other high-tech gadgets.)

TaTa Harper 100% Natural and Non Toxic Skin Care Products
August 8, 2011
I’m a little late to the press on this one. You may have already read about TaTa Harper in Vanity Fair, Vogue, Allure, The New York Times, or on one of my favorite Texas-based blogs, Style and Substance. Right before I left for cooler weather, a lovely package of skin products was left on my doorstep. A month later I finally took a look at the contents of the package and accompanying press release. It pretty much had me at “1,200-acre organic farm in Vermont.” TaTa Harper products are all natural and toxin-free. The product line is made exclusively from ingredients found on Harper’s aforementioned organic farm, which is certified 100% natural and organic by Eco-Cert. Most of us are eating organic as much as possible, but we’re still fine with polluting our bodies with chemicals through our daily skin care regimens. I know I’m guilty of that. So this point, I’m thinking, please let these products work. Fast forward two weeks, and I am happy to report that they seem to be working as well as my previous chemical-infused products. I like them so much I booked a TaTa Harper facial at Equinox in Dallas, and it was one of the best facials I’ve ever had. Seriously, I am hooked. Another plus: the scents of the products are incredibly refreshing. Here are my favorites:

Keep this line in mind as a safe option for skin care, especially during pregnancies, but hopefully all the time. Available at Equinox and online.
J.T. Osgood Color Update
June 22, 2011
Remember way back when I wrote this post about getting my hair colored? Well, I chickened out for several months. I’m just not a hair color type of girl. At least I thought I wasn’t. But then I found out that a fellow brunette friend of mine has her hair colored by J.T., and my friend’s hair is so natural looking, I never even knew it was colored at all. So I finally went. Without giving away too much, J.T. is totally worth the hype. And the wait list. She has moved from Osgood O’Neil Salon and is temporarily subleasing space at Bella Vita salon at 6170 Sherry Lane #100 in Dallas while she works on her new salon, The Songbird Society. 214 361-2070.

drybar – Dallas, Los Angeles and more…
March 6, 2011

I love my regular hairdresser, but it is hard to beat a blowout for $35. DryBar is a genius new franchise that offers blowouts (no cuts, no color) in a sleek modern studio complete with cocktails and hip music. Photo books show examples of the six styles on the menu: Straight Up – simple and straight, Manhattan – sleek and smooth, Southern Comfort – big hair with volume, Cosmopolitan – lots of loose curls, Mai Tai – messy and beachy, Shirley Temple – pre-teen blowout. You can also indulge in three extra services for an extra charge: the Uptini – an updo, a Floater – 10 minute head massage, or Dry On The Fly – an in home blowout. I had the Cosmopolitan and will definitely be back for more. The online booking is a breeze (but book early!) and you are in and out in about a half hour. One bit of advice for those with really long hair…make note of that in the comment section when you book online so they’ll add a little extra time to your appointment.
P.S. Note the brilliant chandelier. They thought of everything.
