The Office of Angela Scott

February 19, 2012

First of all, the brand name is so cool. The Office of Angela Scott.  The Dallas designer, Angela Scott, and her namesake line of handmade shoes, are equally cool (and interesting, and stylish, and the perfect mix of masculine and feminine).  I happened to be at the right place (VOD) at the right time (when Angela showed up with her fall 2012 collection) and let’s just say you are going to be hearing a lot about The Office of Angela Scott.  Totally intellectual chic.  And the craftsmanship on each pair is incredible.  My favorite fall boot has rose gold accents.  Rose gold.  On shoes!  Here’s a peek at some of what’s in store for fall:

Oh those monogrammed soles!  I think this description from her website best sums up her process and style:

Dream On, Dreamers

Thanks to my husband, our friend Paul (a graphics designer), and City Sign (the company that does our “Open” signs at the restaurants), I now have a cool neon installation over a guest bed in our house.  Every time I walk into chic boutique Forty Five Ten, their neon, which reads “Happiness Is Expensive,” makes me smile.  It just took me a year to figure out an expression fitting of our family/our house/our lives.  And the phrase also works well over a bed.  Not a bad idea for a Valentine’s or anniversary gift, don’t you think?

Hadleigh’s Baby

February 12, 2012

Hopefully you are all still planning sweet surprises for Valentine’s Day, but for those with baby gifts on the brain, I just saw these darling photo albums and cashmere bear (complete with a scarf for baby) at Hadleigh’s retail store in Highland Park Village.

There’s also plenty of luxury items for “big kids” too, such as leather iPad cases, pen and notebook covers, slippers, clothing and accessories.  And don’t forget the upstairs, by-appointment Hadleigh’s atelier, where you can go as glam as it gets by commissioning custom almost anything via Hadleigh’s connections to some of the world’s best artisans.

I’m not sure how we lucked into a lot of great press in the course of one week, but we’ll take it.  Two of the articles debuted on chic Dallas blogs that you’ll probably want to bookmark: A Piece of Toast and Modern Eve.

I also have to brag on my husband, who just got named one of the Top 25 American Food Entrepreneurs by Gourmet. Thanks to everyone who made these kind words possible.  Guess our stars are aligned at the moment!

Keep reading (and eating). xo, CS

Sachajuan Hair Products

The Songbird Society in Dallas is not only one of the best places in town for color, but they also pride themselves in offering the very best beauty products available anywhere.  And with J.T. Osgood’s and Richard Hayler’s decades of experience, they’ve tried a lot of products!  The Swedish Sachajuan haircare line is one of their favorites, and they’ve now got me hooked on the color shampoo and conditioner.  I’ve never really been a hair product girl–I always buy whatever is used on my hair at the salon and then take it home to never use it–but now I am consistently applying  Sachajuan Mousse, Shine Serum, and Straight Out products.  Next on my post-baby to try list is a local skin care line also available onsite.  Check out the salon and I promise you’ll soon be smitten with J.T. and all things Songbird Society.

The Girl With The Red/Orange Lips

January 23, 2012

I’ll admit I seem to have developed a style crush on a girl I’ve never met.  She is dating a Facebook friend of mine, and she pops up in his posts looking insanely glam every time.  So I’ve been following their courtship from afar, getting a sort of guilty pleasure in clicking through photos of their trips to Hawaii and Napa, just to see what she’s wearing and how she pulls it all together (wardrobe/accessories/makeup) perfectly.  The thing that really has me hooked is her bold lipstick color–sort of a red/orange–in almost every single picture, no matter where they are or what time of day.  She has dark hair like me, so I decided to steal her look.

Jason Wu did a more extreme take on the red/orange lips in his Spring 2012 runway show.  Here is the look, and the color used by his makeup artist.

I toned it down a bit (I’d call it a red/coral) and developed my own version with YSL Rouge Volupte Perle 110 lipstick and YSL Golden Gloss #3.  I love the look it gives with very little other makeup.  Thanks for the inspiration, mystery Facebook girl!

Fitbit Ultra

Here’s the newest husband-approved gadget around our house–the Fitbit Ultra. Wear this wireless, paperclip-like device and track your daily activity and sleep.  It all uploads to your computer, giving you detailed daily reports as to how many calories you burned, how far you walked, how many stairs you climbed–and even more impressive–it monitors your sleep.  That’s right, in the event you want to know how many times you woke up in the night and how much sleep you actually got, this little thing is like an all-knowing elf.  My husband is apparently not the only one obsessed.  Check out the many reviews (like the following) on the site.  $100
